This is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, allowing men to return to a normal reaction to sexual stimulation. Under a different brand name, it’s also a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension, i.e. high blood pressure caused when the flow of blood is restricted through the chest.
Unless there has been some physical injury, it should not be necessary for younger men to take this drug. Erectile dysfunction more usually affects older men. However, aging often means heart problems. You need to have a detailed discussion with your physician or pharmacist if you are taking any drug containing a nitrate or used to control an erratic rhythm of the heart, blood pressure and other problems of the blood vessels.
Most men find there are responsive in about 30 minutes. This allows for there being a reasonable amount of food in the stomach. If you have not eaten recently, you will find an erection forms much faster. If you eat a heavy meal, you should allow at least an hour before attempting sexual activity.
For the record, there’s no erection unless you find yourself in a situation of sexual stimulation. The first reaction to stimulation is in the brain. That triggers the physical response.
This will be based on your age and physical weight. Your physician or pharmacist will advise. It is possible Viagra will not work the first time you take it. With your doctor’s permission, you can try increasing the dose the next time. A certain amount of trial and error may be necessary to find the right level.
However, you should not increase the dose without approval or take other erectile dysfunction pills at the same time. It risks an overdose and serious side effects.
The rule is a simple one. You need to allow enough time for all the active chemicals to clear your bloodstream before you take another pill (whether that pill is Viagra or one of the other erectile dysfunction drugs). This means allowing a full 24 hours between pills. If you break this rule, there’s a risk of an overdose.
